DIntFIG 1: Anterior intestinal cells in L2 and dauer larvae.
Transverse views of anterior intestinal cells in L2 (A) and dauer (B) larvae. Pink outlines the 4 intestinal cells (INT1) in the anterior intestine. In the dauer there are fewer microvilli in the brush border surrounding the intestinal lumen and they are shorter. Adherens junctions sealing the apical borders between individual intestinal cells appear lengthened in dauers (arrowheads). Bars, 1 micron; DC, dorsal nerve cord; VC, ventral nerve cord; Exc, excretory cell; Hyp, hypodermis; N, nucleus. (Image sources: [D. Riddle] L2 N2 28-14 #1674, dauer DRIF series 56-1-2 #30u.)
