Center for Nematode Anatomy:
Hosted by the laboratories of David Hall (Albert Einstein College of Medicine) and Nathan Schroeder (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign)
Mission Statement:
Our long-term goal is to increase the utility of C. elegans as a research model for human health by providing a better platform for understanding nematode anatomy that will, ultimately, improve rigor and reproducibility of biomedical research.
We aim to serve the C. elegans and Nematode communities by:
Serving as a central hub for the interpretation and presentation of anatomical data and research on nematodes
Offering a series of online handbooks (WormAtlas) that provide comprehensive tissue-specific reviews of nematode anatomy during different developmental stages
Providing an image database (WormImage) of ~78,0000 electron microscopy images of C. elegans and other nematdoes
Using comparative anatomy of multiple nematode species to uncover important biological processes relevant to controlling human-parasite infections and to reveal fundamental cell structures and processes conserved among other model organisms and humans
Training the next generation of worm anatomy experts on techniques and anatomical interpretation via workshops, webinars and through in-person training in our laboratories
