G. Early-L3-stage animal, left lateral view. Seam cells have undergone their stem-cell division during the L2/3 molt. Their anterior daughters will fuse with hyp 7. A post-deirid sensillum has formed and attaches to the hypodermis through adherens junctions (arrow).

Late-L4-stage animal, left lateral view. The 16 seam cells have reached their final stage, but have not yet terminally differentiated. Since they have not yet fused, adherens junctions still exist between each seam cell (inset, arrows).
I. Adult-stage animal, left lateral view. Seam cells have terminally differentiated and fused to make one syncytium of 16 cells on each side. Adherens junctions between cells have dissolved (inset).
